Rahul Dravid, popularly known as "Wall" in world Test cricket, whose full name is Rahul Sharad Dravid, was born on 11 January 1973 in Indore city of Madhya Pradesh. After some time, his whole family started living in Bangalore where his training started. Realizing his talent and his interest at the young age of twelve, he started finding his goal in cricket. While doing his studies in Bangalore, he started playing domestic cricket and played "Under 15", "Under 17" and "Under 19" from Karnataka state.

Rahul Dravid was born in a Marathi family. His father Sharad Dravid worked in a jam and pickle making company, due to which he was also fondly called "Jamie". His mother Pushpa Dravid was a professor in an engineering college established in Bangalore. On 4 May 2003, Rahul married the winner Pendharkar, who is from Surgeon, Nagpur. They have 2 sons Samit and Anvay. Rahul can also speak Marathi, Hindi, Kannada, and English languages.

A major turning point in Rahul Dravid's life was seen in 1996 when he got the opportunity to play one-day internationals for the first time. The match was played against Sri Lanka in Singapore after the 1996 World Cup. In this match, he was played in place of Vinod Kamble, but in his first world-class match, Rahul returned to the pavilion for just three runs with Muttiah Murali holding the ball. However, performing his fielding well, he caught two catches in this match. Similarly, in their second one-day match, they faced disappointment, in which they were run out by scoring only 4 runs against Pakistan. Rahul's start of ODI was definitely slow but he had complete confidence in his game. This year, in view of his performance for the last five consecutive years, he was appointed for the England Test.

In the second match of this Test series, he got a chance to play in place of Sanjay Manjrekar. Sanjay was troubled by his ankle injury during this time, due to which Sanjay had to undergo a medical test before playing the second match of the series. Here one misfortune turned out to be the luck of another. Sanjay could not fit in the medical test, and 10 minutes before the toss, the Indian team coach Sandeep Patil told Dravid that - today he will start his Test cricket. As a result, Rahul was replaced in the team in place of Sanjay. He played his first Test against England at Lord's. In his first Test, he scored 95 runs after performing brilliantly, which attracted the attention of cricket experts and common cricket lovers. Rahul was to remain in the top 11 until Sanjay returned, but even after Sanjay's arrival, he got a chance to stay in the team, due to which Ajay Jadeja had to withdraw from the top 11.

After a great start in the Test on foreign land, Rahul also had to play on the land of his country. He played his first Test against Australia in Delhi at the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Coming at the sixth position of the first innings batting, he added 40 runs to the Indian account. During the same year against South Africa, he got a chance to bat at number three while playing a home Test series in Ahmedabad. In the second match of this series, he also got the opportunity to open the opener, but then he again got the third place in the third match. His performance in this series against South Africa was not very special. He contributed 175 runs at an average of 29.16 throughout the series. Nevertheless, looking at the situation at that time, he was considered the third-best Indian batsman of the series.

Not seeing Rahul's good performance, the selectors did not give him a place in the top 11. However, he got a chance to play in the third match of the same series, in which he was to play in the last part of the innings. Eager to take his place in ODI cricket, Rahul made 22 runs from the last 15 balls of the innings on this occasion, unbeaten and could show some tricks. After this, he got an opportunity to play in ODI cricket in Sri Lanka where he again faced failure. In this quadrangle series played in Sri Lanka, he could score just 20 runs in two matches.

It is said that there is a morning after every night. Rahul's ODI game also had to come in the morning. His morning came while playing the Sahara Cup match against Pakistan. There were five matches in this series in which Rahul scored a total of 220 runs at an average of 44.0. Azhar played memorable innings with Rahul in the second match of the same series, in which their partnership added a total of 160 runs in the Indian account. After this, Rahul's performance in ODI caught a pace. He played his role in many matches of many series. The World Cup is the dream of every cricket player, whose lifetime effort to fulfill it sometimes falls short. Rahul was playing cricket continuously. This dedication made him stand around this dream. He got his first World Cup to play in 1999, in which his first match was against South Africa. In this match, he scored a half-century while playing good cricket, but India had to face defeat. The Indian team had seen two consecutive defeats during this period, and the second defeat was against Zimbabwe, in which Rahul could score just 13 runs. The Indian team had to win all the remaining matches to make it to the Super Six. At the same time, Rahul played a brilliant inning with Sachin, in this innings he scored a total of 237 runs along with Sachin Tendulkar.  With the innings, the Indian team won the match that was most important to go to the Super Six. This match was played against Kenya. While playing the World Cup, he was given the command of wicket-keeping when Nayan Mongia was injured. After this, his journey continued like this. In 2012, he retired from Test cricket and domestic cricket. During this time he remained the captain of the Rajasthan team in the IPL. He also retired from T20 cricket after the 2013 IPL.
