Shikhar Dhawan was born on 5 December 1985. His birthplace is Delhi (India). He comes from a Punjabi family. Shikhar Dhawan's father's name is Mahendra Pal Dhawan and his mother's name is Sunaina Dhawan. Shikhar Dhawan has done his early education from St. Mark's Senior Secondary Public School, Meera Bagh, Delhi . From a very young age, Shikhar Dhawan started taking cricket seriously and started coaching to progress in this game.


Cricket Career of Shikhar Dhawan

From the age of 12, he started practicing cricket at the Sonnet Club under the guidance of Tarak Sinha. Initially, Shikhar played the role of wicket-keeper for his club. Gradually, he began to refine his batting skills and later he emerged as an established batsman.

Shikhar Dhawan did an interview in one place stating the reason behind coming into the game of cricket - one of my cousins ​​used to play cricket on behalf of Sonnet Club in Delhi. Seeing them, I too had a tendency towards this game and gradually it became an important part of my life. And like children, I used to play with the children of my colony in the beginning. My performance was good. Later, I and my family members decided to adopt it professionally.

Shikhar Dhawan got a chance to play Vijay Merchant Trophy in 1999-2000. Shikhar's performance in the first session was normal. The next season saw the victory of Shikhar's bat in the 2001-02 Vijay Merchant Trophy. Shikhar played 9 matches throughout the tournament and scored a total of 755 runs with a decent average of 83.88. Shikhar was the best scorer of the entire tournament and his team Delhi finished second in the tournament.

Given the good performance, Shikhar Dhawan was included in the Indian team for the Under-17 Asia Cup. Shikhar Dhawan played in the Under 19 World Cup in 2004. He scored the most runs in that World Cup.

In 2004-05, he played the first match in the Ranji Trophy from Delhi. In that trophy, he was the highest run-scorer from his team. They came up for discussion for doing well. Shikhar was bought by the Delhi team in the first season of IPL. He played for Mumbai in the next season as Delhi replaced Ashish Nehra. When the auction next set, Hyderabad bought him for $ 300,000.

Shikhar Dhawan got his first ODI against Australia in October 2010 in Visakhapatnam. The first match was extremely disappointing for Shikhar. Chasing 289 for 3 from Australia, the Indian team was opened by Shikhar Dhawan. Shikhar was dismissed for 0 after playing just 2 balls in this match. However, India managed to win thanks to captain Virat Kohli's century (118) and half-centuries from Yuvraj Singh (58) and Suresh Raina (71).

After a spectacular 2011 IPL season, he was selected as the opener for the ODI series of the West Indies and again disappointed, scoring just 58 runs in three matches. He did not do well for India, but scored three centuries in his domestic season in 2012, making him the team's next opener.

Dhawan continued his superb form in ODIs and won the Player of the Tournament title in the ICC Champions Trophy in June 2013. He scored 363 runs in five matches, including two centuries and a half-century.

Shikhar Dhawan was in the race against time to regain his form in the 2015 World Cup. The pace and bounce of the Australian players overtook Dhawan, but he did well at the right time for India, scoring 412 runs with the help of two centuries and a half-century, scoring 137 against South Africa in Melbourne.

In June 2011, he played the first T20 match against the West Indies at Queen's Park Oval. In which he was dismissed after scoring 5 runs off 11 balls. In the first match of the ODI series, Shikhar Dhawan definitely showed his talent by scoring 51 runs from 76 balls, but in the next matches, he could only score 3, 4, and 11 runs respectively.

On 14 March 2013, he played the first Test match against Australia. On the third day of the Test, he completed the fastest century and broke the record of former India player Gundappa Vishwanath who had already scored the fastest century in the match. Shikhar Dhawan had scored an unbeaten 185 off only 168 balls in that Test match.

Dhawan is the third Indian opener to score two consecutive centuries.  In the ICC Champions Trophy, he equaled Chris Gayle, Herschelle Gibbs, and Sourav Ganguly's most centuries. He also set the record for becoming the fastest batsman to score 500 runs in the Champions Trophy, in which he played only 7 matches.

Shikhar Dhawan's other name is Gabbar. He was named Gabbar because when he was fielding in the slip, he often spoke the dialogues of Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra's famous villain of the film "Sholay", Amjad Khan, to increase the enthusiasm of the team. That is why all of them are now called Gabbar.

IPL(Indian Premier League)

Shikhar Dhawan plays for Delhi Daredevils in India's domestic Twenty League IPL (Indian Premier League). In the second and third seasons of IPL, Shikhar played for the Mumbai Indians team. Subsequently, in the 4th IPL season, he was signed by the Deccan Chargers team for $ 300,000 dollars. He then became the captain of Sun Raisers Hyderabad. After that, he was removed and made Darren Sammy the captain. In the year 2016, under the captaincy of David Warner, Shikhar scored 501 runs in 17 matches, playing against Sun Raisers Hyderabad. Sun Raisers Hyderabad bought Shikhar for 5.2 crore rupees in the year 2018 auction. In the year 2019, he was bought by Delhi Capitals.
